Itinerary

Day 1: Bangalore to Mysore

Pickup from Bangalore and drive to Mysore (approx. 3.5 hrs). Afternoon: Stop at Srirangapatna, the island fortress of Tipu Sultan. Visit Daria Daulat Bagh (Summer Palace) to see exquisite teakwood carvings and frescoes depicting colonial battles. Evening: Visit the Gumbaz (Mausoleum of Tipu Sultan) and the Ranganathaswamy Temple.

Explore the Amba Vilas Palace (Mysore Palace), a masterpiece of Indo-Saracenic architecture. Don’t miss the Golden Throne and the Durbar Hall then visit Jaganmohan Palace to see one of the largest collections of artefacts and paintings (including Raja Ravi Varma) in South India.  Drive up Chamundi Hill to see the 12th-century temple and the massive 16-foot Nandi (Bull) Statue carved from a single boulder.

Take a short drive (35 km) to Somnathpur. Visit the Chennakesava Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is famous for its unique star-shaped platform and ceilings so intricately carved they resemble lace in stone. Return to Mysore; visit St. Philomena’s Cathedral, one of the tallest churches in India, built in Neo-Gothic style.

Drive to Coorg (approx. 3 hrs). Stop at Bylakuppe to visit the Namdroling Monastery (Golden Temple), the second-largest Tibetan settlement outside Tibet. Explore Madikeri Fort, originally built of mud in the 17th century and later rebuilt in stone by Tipu Sultan. It houses a museum and a unique Anglican church

Visit Raja’s Seat, a seasonal garden where the Kings of Coorg watched sunsets. Visit the Omkareshwara Temple, built in 1820 with a unique mix of Gothic and Islamic styles.  Start the return journey to Bangalore (approx. 5.5 hrs) for your final drop-off at the Airport or Railway Station.
